BMW owner statistics are best understood through delivery, financing and fleet data rather than a single global owner census. BMW Group delivered 2,450,854 vehicles worldwide in 2024, while the BMW automobile brand delivered 2,200,217; these are customer deliveries, not unique owners.

BMW Group Deliveries and Brand Scale
Delivery statistics show the flow of new vehicles into the market, not the number of people who own BMW vehicles. A person may own multiple vehicles, while a leased vehicle can have a different user and legal owner.
| Brand or segment | 2023 | 2024 | Geography and unit |
|---|---|---|---|
| BMW Group | 2,554,183 | 2,450,854 | Worldwide vehicles delivered |
| BMW automobiles | 2,252,793 | 2,200,217 | Worldwide automobiles delivered |
| MINI | 295,358 | 244,925 | Worldwide automobiles delivered |
| Rolls-Royce | 6,032 | 5,712 | Worldwide automobiles delivered |
| BMW Motorrad | — | 210,385 | Worldwide motorcycles delivered |
BMW Group deliveries fell 4.0% from 2023 to 2024, while BMW-brand deliveries decreased 2.3%. MINI deliveries declined 17.1%, partly attributed in the report to full portfolio renewal, and Rolls-Royce deliveries decreased 5.3%.
The brand populations should remain separate: MINI and Rolls-Royce are BMW Group brands, while BMW Motorrad represents motorcycles rather than BMW automobiles. BMW Group also employed 159,104 people at 31 December 2024, a company-scale measure rather than an owner count. BMW Group Report 2024
BMW Model Mix and Premium-Market Position
BMW’s premium-market position provides context for the scale of the customer base, but a market share is not a share of all vehicles or owners. BMW held 21.7% of the global premium segment in 2024, according to BMW Group reporting.
BMW M adds a performance-oriented subpopulation within the BMW brand. BMW M sales exceeded 200,000 vehicles in 2024, and the company said nearly one in ten BMW vehicles sold was an M model; the latter is rounded company wording rather than a separately calculated owner share.
BMW M sales increased for the 13th consecutive year in 2024. Motorsport activity is a different outcome measure: BMW M Motorsport cars recorded 215 combined wins in the reported season ending 2024, and the three current racing cars competed in more than 1,000 races in that season. Consumer Reports ranked BMW number one in the United States in March 2024 among 34 automotive manufacturers. Four BMW models received Consumer Reports’ Green Choice environmental seal in the cited 2024 assessment; these are comparative assessment results, not a census or ownership rate. BMW Electric and Electrified Adoption Data
“Electrified” means BEV plus PHEV in the figures below, whereas all-electric means BEV only. Sales shares describe new-vehicle adoption and should not be read as the share of the existing BMW owner base using an EV.
| Measure | 2023 | 2024 | Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| All-electric vehicles sold | 375,716 | 426,536 | Worldwide BMW Group |
| Electrified vehicles delivered | 565,875 | 593,150 | Worldwide BMW Group, BEV + PHEV |
| All-electric share of sales | — | 17.4% | Worldwide BMW Group |
All-electric BMW Group sales increased 13.5% from 2023 to 2024. Electrified deliveries increased 4.8%, and nearly one in four BMW Group vehicles delivered in 2024 was electrified, using the company’s rounded wording.
Brand mix differs. About one quarter of MINI vehicles sold in 2024 were fully electric, while about one third of Rolls-Royce vehicles sold were fully electric; both are approximate shares with brand-specific denominators.
BMW Group offered more than 15 all-electric models across its brands by the end of 2024.
For charging access, BMW’s charging card provided access to more than 670,000 charging points across Europe at the end of 2024. Access through a card is not the same as owning or operating chargers.
BMW Group planned to reach its three-millionth electrified vehicle and its 1.5-millionth all-electric vehicle in 2025. These are forward-looking company targets, not achieved 2024 counts. BMW Group Report 2024
BMW Financing, Leasing and Fleet Participation
Financing data captures ways customers and businesses obtain vehicles, but contracts are not necessarily unique people or vehicles over time. In markets where BMW Financial Services had a consolidated entity, it leased or financed 42.6% of new BMW Group vehicles in 2024, up from 38.2% in 2023, a rise of 4.4 percentage points.
Financial Services signed 352,807 contracts for credit financing or leasing pre-owned BMW Group vehicles in 2024, up 8.4% from 2023. The figure describes contracts, not a direct estimate of used-BMW owners.
| Financial measure | 2023 | 2024 | Unit or scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dealership financing business volume | €18,941 million | €21,273 million | At 31 December |
| Financial Services balance-sheet business volume | €137,910 million | €151,117 million | 2024 financial measure |
| Financing portfolio credit-loss ratio | 0.18% | 0.26% | BMW Financial Services |
Dealership financing business volume increased 12.3% from 2023 to 2024, while overall Financial Services business volume increased 9.6%. The credit-loss ratio rose from 0.18% to 0.26%; it is a portfolio risk metric, not a default rate for every BMW owner.
Alphabet, BMW Group’s fleet business, had contracts for 741,935 vehicles at the end of 2024. Commercial fleet contracts are distinct from private ownership. BMW Group Report 2024
BMW Global Reach, Dealerships and Production
BMW Group’s physical network helps explain how ownership and vehicle access can scale across markets. In 2024, the global retail network comprised around 4,800 BMW and MINI sales locations, an approximate company figure rather than an owner count.
The production network comprised 33 plants in 16 countries. BMW Group also had sales subsidiaries and Financial Services locations in 41 locations worldwide, plus research-and-development locations in 18 countries.
BMW Group described Europe, the United States and China as its three most important automobile markets in 2024. The supplied figures do not provide market-specific owner counts or market shares for those regions.
BMW Motorrad sold through more than 1,300 dealerships in about 100 countries in 2024. Those rounded lower-bound figures describe the motorcycle network and should not be combined with BMW automobile dealership or owner statistics. BMW Group Report 2024
BMW Fleet Emissions and Sustainability Measures
Fleet-emissions statistics describe new-vehicle regulatory populations and corporate value-chain measures, not the lifetime emissions of individual owners. Regulatory cycles also differ, so EU WLTP, US reporting and China WLTC figures are not interchangeable.
| Fleet measure | Earlier period | Later period | Geography and basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| EU fleet average | 102.1 g CO2/km (2023) | 99.5 g CO2/km (2024) | WLTP, European Union |
| US fleet average | 126.5 g CO2/km (model year 2022) | 114.6 g CO2/km (model year 2023) | Volume-weighted US metric |
| China fleet average | 146.4 g CO2/km (2023) | 141.9 g CO2/km (2024) | WLTC, China |
| Global fleet average | 226.8 g CO2e/km (2019 base) | 185.0 g CO2e/km (2024) | BMW Group global fleet |
BMW Group’s EU fleet average decreased 2.6 g CO2/km from 2023 to 2024 and was 30.6 g CO2/km below the applicable approximately 130.1 g CO2/km legal limit. The US metric fell 11.9 g CO2/km from model year 2022 to model year 2023, while China’s fleet metric decreased 4.5 g CO2/km from 2023 to 2024.
Global fleet carbon emissions decreased 18.4% from the 2019 base-year level to 185.0 g CO2e/km in 2024. BMW Group estimated that vehicle-fleet electrification would provide approximately 65% of the absolute contribution to its 2030 CO2e reduction target, which is at least 40 million tonnes of CO2e versus 2019.
Other sustainability measures are operational rather than ownership outcomes. BMW Group reported around 38,000 tonnes of CO2e reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from measures implemented in 2024 versus the prior year, assessed 71 suppliers for CO2-reducing measures, and estimated that verified and implemented supply-chain actions reduced emissions by around 2.8 million tonnes CO2e in 2024.
In 2024, 271 suppliers participated in BMW Group’s supply-chain rating, representing 79% of direct production-related purchasing volume. BMW Group also reported that water consumption per vehicle fell by more than 30% between 2006 and 2024; that is a production-network measure, not water use by BMW owners. BMW Group Report 2024
