BMW Electric Car Sales Statistics Worldwide

BMW Group’s 2024 delivery figures cover BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce and include all powertrains in the total-delivery denominator. The BEV population is narrower: it means battery-electric, all-electric vehicles and excludes plug-in hybrids.

Measure 2024 result Population and geography
All-electric deliveries 426,536 BMW Group worldwide
Total vehicle deliveries 2,450,804 BMW Group worldwide
BMW brand BEV deliveries 368,475 BMW brand worldwide
BMW brand total deliveries 2,200,177 BMW brand worldwide
MINI all-electric deliveries 56,181 MINI worldwide

The BMW Group’s all-electric vehicles represented 17.4% of automobile deliveries in 2024. At BMW brand level, BEVs represented 16.7% of deliveries, while BMW brand plug-in-hybrid deliveries were 164,172.

The broader electrified category totaled 593,215 BMW Group deliveries, or 24.2% of sales. That combined measure includes BEVs and plug-in hybrids, so it should not be compared with the BEV-only percentages as though they described the same population. BMW Group Report 2024 — Statement of the Chairman of the Board of Management

BMW Group BEV deliveries were 375,716 in 2023, equal to 14.7% of automobile deliveries. The company reported 74.1% year-over-year BEV growth in 2023 versus 2022, followed by a further 13.5% increase in 2024 versus 2023.

Brand or measure 2024 result Change or share
BMW Group BEVs 426,536 +13.5% vs. 2023
BMW brand BEVs 368,475 +11.6% vs. 2023
MINI BEVs 56,181 +24.3% vs. 2023
BMW Group BEV share in 2023 375,716 vehicles 14.7% of deliveries

At the end of 2024, fully electric vehicles were about one-quarter of MINI sales and about one-third of Rolls-Royce sales. BMW Group also offered more than 15 all-electric models across its brands, and it had at least one all-electric model across every brand and segment from the end of 2023.

The 2024 launch list included six named all-electric or electric-related models and variants: BMW iX2, China-wheelbase i5, i5 Touring, MINI Cooper SE, MINI Countryman SE and MINI Aceman. These are launch and availability measures, not equivalent sales counts. BMW Group Report 2024 — Management Report BMW Group Report 2024 — Strategic approach: Where is the BMW Group heading?

BMW Group’s target for 2025 was more than 50% fully electrified cars in deliveries. Because “fully electrified” is broader than the BEV-only definition used in the delivery statistics, the target should be treated as a company forecast rather than a completed BEV result.

BMW Electric Car Model Sales in the United States

BMW of North America reported 2024 U.S. sales for the BMW brand. Its full-year period ran from January 3, 2024 through January 2, 2025, while its Q4 period ran from October 1, 2024 through January 2, 2025.

BMW model or category Full-year 2024 Year-over-year result
All BMW BEVs 50,981 +12.3%
BMW i4 23,403 +3.6%
BMW i5 8,763 +310.8%
BMW i7 3,431 +0.9%
BMW iX 15,383 -11.1%
BMW plug-in hybrids 19,398 —
Total BMW electrified 70,379 19% of U.S. sales

The i4 was the largest listed BMW BEV by 2024 U.S. sales, while the iX was also a major contributor despite its 11.1% annual decline. The i5’s 310.8% increase reflects the comparison base shown in BMW’s release and should not be interpreted without that base-year context.

Quarterly results show a mixed pattern. BMW sold 13,876 BEVs in Q4 2024, down 3.5% from Q4 2023; i4 sales were 5,737, up 6.2%, i5 sales were 2,987, up 40.0%, i7 sales were 938, down 40.1%, and iX sales were 4,214, down 20.1%.

The U.S. electrified total combines 50,981 BEVs with 19,398 plug-in hybrids. It therefore measures a broader adoption category than the BEV total. BMW of North America Reports Q4 2024 U.S. Sales Results, Sets New Benchmarks for Annual Sales and BEV Sales

BMW Charging Infrastructure Statistics

Charging access figures describe networks available through BMW and MINI services, not necessarily charging points owned by BMW. In 2024, BMW and MINI Charging Cards provided access to more than 2 million charging points worldwide.

In Europe, the BMW Charging Card provided access to more than 670,000 charging points at the end of 2024. These are access-network measures and should not be read as unique physical sites or as the number of chargers installed by BMW.

BMW’s charging partnerships also include planned infrastructure. IONNA’s objective was to install 30,000 charging points in the United States and Canada, while IONCHI planned at least 1,000 charging stations and around 7,000 charging points in China by the end of 2026.

Stations and charging points are different units, and both IONNA and IONCHI figures are objectives rather than completed installations. BMW’s report also states that the participating IONITY network uses 100% renewable electricity in Europe; that statement concerns the network’s electricity supply, not vehicle life-cycle emissions. BMW Electric Car Battery and Production Data

BMW’s Gen6 battery specifications are targets and technology descriptions, not measured fleet-wide outcomes. The cells target about 20% more energy density, charging speeds up to 30% faster and around 30% greater range than the prior generation, with actual results depending on the vehicle and charger.

Gen6 batteries use 800-volt technology for the first time in BMW’s high-voltage battery concept. BMW also planned five new Gen6 high-voltage battery production facilities near vehicle plants in Germany, Hungary, China, Mexico and the United States; the facility count is planned, not a completed-plant total.

Production measure 2024 result Scope
Production locations 33 in 16 countries BMW Group global network
Automobiles manufactured 2,513,830 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce; all powertrains
All-electric vehicles at Regensburg 100,000 Regensburg, Germany
Remote-upgrade-capable vehicles More than 9 million Connected BMW fleet; not BEV-only

Plant Regensburg’s 100,000 all-electric vehicles are a plant-level output, not worldwide BMW BEV production. Similarly, the 2,513,830-vehicle production total includes combustion, plug-in-hybrid and battery-electric vehicles across the named brands. BMW Group Report 2024 — Management Report BMW Group Report 2024 — Statement of the Chairman of the Board of Management

BMW Group planned production of its 1.5 millionth all-electric vehicle during 2025 and its three millionth electrified vehicle during 2025. Both are planned cumulative milestones, and the electrified milestone includes BEVs and plug-in hybrids.

BMW Electric Car Emissions and Efficiency Statistics

BMW’s emissions figures are fleet and regulatory measures unless specifically stated otherwise. They include non-BEV vehicles and use different definitions, including WLTP, WLTC and U.S. type-approval categories.

Fleet measure Period Result
Global fleet-wide carbon emissions 2023 185.4 g CO2/km
Global change from 2019 base 2023 vs. 2019 -15.1%
EU fleet average under WLTP 2023 102.1 g CO2/km
EU change 2023 vs. 2022 -2.9 g CO2/km
EU fleet average below legal limit 2023 26.5 g CO2/km below 128.6 g limit
U.S. passenger-car fleet Model year 2023 116.5 g CO2/km
U.S. light-truck fleet Model year 2023 137.3 g CO2/km
U.S. volume-weighted fleet average Model year 2023 126.5 g CO2/km
China fleet under WLTC 2023 146.4 g CO2/km

BMW Group exceeded its EU fleet CO2 target by more than 30 grams in 2024. That result covers all new vehicles and regulatory accounting, so it is not a BEV-only efficiency measure.

The company’s 2025 target was a reduction of more than 0.5 million tonnes of Scope 1 and 2 CO2e versus 2019. Its 2030 target is more than 40 million tonnes lower Scope 3 CO2e from the supply chain and use phase versus 2019; both are company-wide targets rather than electric-car-only outcomes.
